Visible is the first part of the metro rail
On the occasion of the golden jubilee of independence, the government has planned to launch a section of the metro rail project from Diabari in Uttara to Agargaon this year. In that context, a segment of the last span at the end of this section has been placed today, Sunday. Through this, the 11.63 km line of the project became visible.
The last segment of the Diabari-Agargaon section of the Metro Rail has been set up around 11 am on Sunday, officials said. MAN Siddique, Managing Director of Dhaka Mass Transport Company Limited, which is in charge of owning and operating the Metro Rail, was present on the occasion.
The Dhaka Mass Rapid Transit Development Project (MRT Line-6) was approved in 2012 at a cost of about Tk 22,000 crore under the Strategic Transport Plan (STP) to build an effective traffic-free transport system in the capital.
With the help of Japan, 20.10 km metro rail from Diabari to Motijheel is to be constructed by 2024. The line will be extended from Motijheel to Kamalapur. As a result, the length will be 21.60 kilometers. However, on the occasion of the golden jubilee of independence, the government has decided to start the section up to Agargaon earlier.
In this regard, MAN Siddique said, although there is less precedent in Bangladesh to complete the work of the project on time, there is an attempt to break the section and complete the work of Metro Rail before the scheduled time. This may not increase the cost.
It is learned that the work of Metro Rail from Diabari to Uttara has already been completed by more than 80 percent. The people concerned think that it is possible to complete the rest of the work before the scheduled time.
