Mushtaq Ahmed, a writer arrested under digital law, died in jail


Writer Mushtaq Ahmed, who was arrested on charges of "anti-state conspiracy", has died in Kashimpur jail. He died at around 8.30 pm on Thursday.


Mushtaq Ahmed, who is critically ill, has been in jail since May last year. He was arrested in a case filed by the RAB under the Digital Security Act. He was 53 years old.


Mushtaq, a prisoner at the Kashimpur High-Security Central Jail in Gazipur, fell ill this evening and was taken to the jail hospital. He was later shifted to Gazipur Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment. The doctor on duty there declared him dead.


Mushtaq Ahmed, one of the founders of crocodile farming in the country, is the only child of his parents. He lived in Lalmatia, Dhaka. He was survived by his wife and elderly parents. His body will be handed over to his family on Friday morning.
