The tunnel diameter will be 10.80 meters (35.4 ft). The cost of the project is estimated at 10,374 Crore. It is financed by the Exim Bank of China. The tunnel is expected to be completed in 2022 and will be the first river tunnel in South Asia. It is expected to improve the Dhaka—Chittagong—Cox's Bazar highway network. A Chinese company, China Communications Construction Company, was selected to construct it. The country's GDP is likely to increase by 0.17 percent. It will reduce the distance of 40 km from Cox's Bazar to Chittagong. When it will start, 63 lakh vehicles will run in a year. As per him, 16 thousand 280 vehicles will run in a day. একটি টানেল হল একটি গিরিপথ যা মাটির নীচে তৈরি করা হয়, সাধারণত পাহাড়ের মধ্য দিয়ে বা সমুদ্র বা নদীর নীচে। টানেল নির্মাণের পদ্ধতি স্থল পরিস্থিতি, ভূগর্ভস্থ জলের অবস্থা ইত্যাদির উপর নির্ভর করে। টানেল বড় শহরগুলিতে দ্রুত এবং বাধাহীন পরিবহন সুবিধার অনুমতি দেয়। প্রথমবারের মতো টানেল নির্মাণ করতে যাচ্ছে বাংলাদেশ। টানেলের নাম বঙ্গবন্ধু শেখ মুজিবুর রহমান টানেল বা কর্ণফুলী টানেল। এটি বাংলাদেশের একটি মেগা-প্রকল্প। এটি কর্ণফুলী নদীর তলদেশে বাংলাদেশের বন্দর শহর চট্টগ্রামে একটি নির্মাণাধীন আন্ডারওয়াটার এক্সপ্রেসওয়ে টানেল। পুরো রুটের দৈর্ঘ্য 9.39 কিলোমিটার। টানেলের ব্যাস হবে 10.80 মিটার (35.4 ফুট)। প্রকল্পের ব্যয় ধরা হয়েছে 10,374 কোটি টাকা। এটি চীনের এক্সিম ব্যাংক দ্বারা অর্থায়ন করে। টানেলটি 2022 সালে শেষ হবে বলে আশা করা হচ্ছে এবং দক্ষিণ এশিয়ার প্রথম নদী টানেল হবে। এটি ঢাকা-চট্টগ্রাম-কক্সবাজার মহাসড়ক নেটওয়ার্ক উন্নত করবে বলে আশা করা হচ্ছে। এটি নির্মাণের জন্য একটি চীনা কোম্পানি, চায়না কমিউনিকেশনস কনস্ট্রাকশন কোম্পানিকে বেছে নেওয়া হয়েছিল। দেশের জিডিপি 0.17 শতাংশ বৃদ্ধির সম্ভাবনা রয়েছে। এতে কক্সবাজার থেকে চট্টগ্রামের দূরত্ব ৪০ কিলোমিটার কমবে। এটি চালু হলে বছরে ৬৩ লাখ যানবাহন চলবে। তার মতে, একদিনে ১৬ হাজার ২৮০টি গাড়ি চলবে। এক কথায়, এটি আমাদের অর্থনৈতিক বৃদ্ধিকে প্রভাবিত করে।
